The postdoctoral researchers are expected to perform research under the mentoring professors in the department in the relevant fields and have the opportunity to conduct independent research.

Sun Yat-sen University is one of the top comprehensive universities in China. The department is the administrative home of the Planetary Environmental and Astrobiological Research Laboratory (PEARL), which is part of the Center for Excellence in Comparative Planetology of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and one of the founders of the Chinese University Union for Planetary Sciences.
