Senior Postdoctoral / Postdoctoral Researcher position in Astrophysics

The Department of Experimental Physics at Maynooth University is inviting applications for a Postdoctoral Position in Astrophysics to work on JWST observations of SN1987A The successful applicant will join the research group led by Dr. Patrick Kavanagh focused on studies of the matter cycle in galaxies. This position is funded through a Science Foundation Ireland-Irish Research Council (SFI-IRC) Pathway Grant.

This a full-time, temporary post of 20 months. The appointment is expected to be effective from 1st of July 2024, or as soon as possible thereafter. The contract cannot exceed May 31st 2026. Depending on date of commencement, contract duration may vary. Please note, there is a possibility of contract extension should additional funding be allocated.

The appointee will be expected to contribute significantly to the SN1987A research effort but with some time to pursue/develop their own independent research. The group actively collaborates with researchers in Europe and the United
States and are currently engaged in research topics relating to stellar feedback and star formation using
multi-wavelength facilities such as XMM-Newton and JWST.

Applicants should have a PhD in Physics, Astronomy, or a closely related field. The successful applicant will be appointed at either the Senior Postdoctoral Researcher or Postdoctoral Researcher level depending on experience.
