Attention: Dr. Gene Serabyn
The California Institute of Technology, Postdoctoral Scholars Program at JPL invites applications for a postdoctoral research position in infrared astrophysics. The research will involve observations and instrumentation which advance NASA's Origins program. Observations and instrumentation development which would further progress toward the goals of NASA's planned Terrestrial Planet Finder and JWST missions are envisioned. The work would involve observations with ground-based or space-based infrared telescopes and interferometers, and/or work in the area of high-contrast imaging approaches, such as nulling interferometry and coronagraphy. A Ph.D. in physics, astronomy or related fields is required. A strong background in infrared observing and/or instrumentation is highly desirable.
The position is open in the fall of 2003 and appointment is contingent upon completion of Ph.D. Starting date is flexible, but preferably no later than 1 Oct 2003. The annual starting salary for a recent Ph.D. is approximately $US 48,500 and can vary somewhat according to the applicant's qualifications. Positions are awarded initially for a 1-year period. Appointments may be renewed in 1-year increments for a maximum of 2 additional years.
Applicants should submit a CV and the names of three references to Dr. Gene Serabyn at the above address.
Caltech and JPL are equal opportunity/affirmative action employers. Women, minorities, veterans and disabled persons are encouraged to apply.
