2008 GLAST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM
The NASA Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope (GLAST) Program is initiating a Fellowship Program.  NASA plans to award up to 3 GLAST fellowships in 2008.  The goal of these fellowships is to stimulate an infusion of new ideas, techniques, and approaches that will enhance the scientific return of GLAST which will be launched in early 2008. The fellowship provides support for up to three years at an annual stipend of approximately $56,000 plus defined benefits and allowances.  GLAST fellowships are open to English-speaking scientists who have received a Ph.D., Sc.D., or equivalent degree in astronomy, physics, or a related discipline before the start of the fellowship.  Support for each fellow will be provided through an award to a US host institution, designated by the fellow, where the fellow will be resident. Awards will be made on the basis of the applicant's research proposal -- its science merit and relevance to gamma-ray astrophysics, and the science of the GLAST mission. DEADLINE FOR RECEIPT OF APPLICATIONS IS DECEMBER 7, 2007.

Award offers will be made in February, 2008, with the fellowships expected to begin in September, 2008.

The fellowship program is administered by the Center for Research and Exploration in Science and Technology (CRESST) for NASA and the GLAST Mission.  Further information and application instructions can be found at:2008 GLAST FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM,

Institute for Theoretical Physics Fellowships
Graduate students can participate at the ITP either as an affiliate of a visiting senior member (this is typically a graduate student who accompanies their thesis advisor as a participant) or as a Graduate Fellow. The purpose of the graduate fellowship program is to offer a unique opportunity for a select group of physics graduate students to spend a period of five to six months at the ITP, participate in ITP research programs and broaden their understanding of physics in areas of current research. Application materials are available at the website above. For participation in the Spring of 2008, nominations must be received by October 29, 2007. For participation in the Fall of 2008, nominations must be received by May 15, 2008.

Jansky Fellowships at National Radio Astronomy Observatory
Application materials for this program are due in November each year.

Michelson Graduate Student Fellowship Program
The 2008 Michelson Fellowship call has been suspended. We hope to issue the next call, pending NASA funding, in 2009

Michigan Society of Fellows Postdoctoral Fellowships
The Michigan Society of Fellows, under the auspices of the Rackham Graduate School, was established in 1970 with endowment grants from the Ford Foundation and the Horace H. and Mary Rackham Funds. The most distinctive aspect of the Society is a multidisciplinary emphasis which gives the Fellows an opportunity to interact across disciplines and to expand their horizons and knowledge. Each year the Society selects four outstanding applicants for appointment to three-year fellowships in the arts and humanities, in the social, physical and life sciences, and in the professional schools. Applications are invited from qualified candidates who are at the beginning of their academic careers. Fellows are appointed as Assistant Professors in appropriate departments at the University of Michigan and as Postdoctoral Scholars in the Michigan Society of Fellows. They are expected to be in residence during the academic years of the fellowship, to teach for the equivalent of one academic year, to participate in the informal intellectual life of the Society, and to devote time to their independent research. The annual stipend will be $43,260. Applications due each year in October.

National Defense Science and Engineering Graduate Fellowships
This program covers a multitude of areas and applications are normally due in mid to late January.

NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program
The NASA Graduate Student Researchers Program (GSRP) awards fellowships for graduate study leading to masters or doctoral degrees in the fields of science, mathematics, and engineering related to NASA research and development. The goal of NASA's GSRP is to cultivate research ties to the academic community, to help meet the continuing needs of the Nation's aeronautics and space effort by increasing the number of highly trained scientists and engineers in aeronautics and space-related disciplines, and to broaden the base of students pursuing advanced degrees in science, mathematics, and engineering. Research opportunities described in this solicitation are assessed and updated annually to complement the mission requirements of NASA. Research areas are in disciplines that lead to aeronautics and space careers. The program supports approximately 300 graduate students annually. NASA's discipline scientists and technologists evaluate applications based upon academic transcripts, research proposal, Faculty Research Adviser's recommendation, and the proposed utilization of NASA Center or university research facilities. Mentoring and practical research experiences are important aspects of the GSRP Fellowship. It is common practice for the Centers to host students during the summer months to fulfill this purpose; however, the schedule may vary depending on each Center's capacity. Practical research experiences at the NASA Centers will be coordinated by the GSRP Program Managers.
