The Research School of Astronomy and Astrophysics (formerly
Mount Stromlo and Siding Spring Observatories) is pleased to
announce an opening, through an Institute-wide competition,
for an astronomer to join the vigorous program of research
in astronomy and astrophysics supported by the Institute of
Advanced Studies of The Australian National University,
Canberra, ACT.
Applications are invited from suitably qualified women and
men for five to seven IAS Fellowships to start in the year
2000. Appointment may be at Level A ($AU 42,201 - 45,159)
or at Level B ($AU 47,435 - 55,966) and is for two years.
In addition, each appointment carries a research support
grant. Assistance with relocation expenses is available.
Areas of Research Interest: The School is at the forefront
of research in cosmology, extragalactic astronomy, high
energy astrophysics, stellar evolution, interstellar
physics, galaxy dynamics and evolution, and galactic
structure. Applicants with experience in observational or
theoretical studies in these areas are invited to apply.
Tasks: To undertake full time, self-directed research in
Astronomy and Astrophysics at the Research School of
Astronomy and Astrophysics; to participate in graduate
training and/or advising PhD students as required; to
perform Observatory-wide duties as directed, for example,
the planning and organising of conferences, and assisting
with Summer Research Scholar and summer school programs.
Qualifications: PhD (or equivalent) in astronomy or a
relevant discipline.
