This page is intended to provide a bulletin board for:

  • individuals and institutions to list journals, books and equipment that they would be willing to donate to undergraduate and/or graduate institutions in need of such items,
  • undergraduate and/or graduate institutions to list journals, books and equipment that they are in need of in order to enhance their astronomy education programs.

Financial Obligations

Shipping costs of donated items must be paid by the donor, or via a mutual agreement between donor and recipient. Those institutions wishing to receive items should indicate if they are able to help with shipping costs.

Shipping Methods

  • Library Mailing printed matter within the United States
  • M-Bag Mailing printed matter from the United States to a single foreign addressee.

Tax Benefits

Donors may be able to deduct the cost of shipping on their tax returns. The value of items may also be deductible. The donor should obtain an appraisal to determine the value. The IRS provides an on-line searchable source to identify approved charitable organizations for which donations will be deductible (see Tax Information for Contributors). Donors should always consult their tax advisor regarding contributions.
