Attention: Professor T. Tiedje, Head
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at the University of British Columbia
(see http://www.physics.ubc.ca/) is looking for outstanding researchers in the
theme of "Origins", which is a key area for hiring under the Canadian Research
Chairs (CRC) programme (see http://www.sshrc.ca/english/programinfo/chairs_program.html), as well as an
integral component of the department's future hiring plans. The department expects to be making a number of junior and senior appointments over the next
five years in areas including:
string theory;
high-energy physics;
cosmology;
planetary astrophysics.
The department has strong groups in theoretical and experimental particle physics, gravity, and astronomy and astrophysics, with whom the successful candidates would be expected to interact. This "Origins" initiative has close ties with another UBC theme area in "Mathematical Structures", and a detailed description of the joint initiative can be found at http://www.physics.ubc.ca/CRC/origins.html.
The University of British Columbia hires on the basis of merit and is committed to employment equity. We encourage all qualified persons to apply. Applicants should submit curriculum vitae and a statement of current research interests and future plans. They should also have three letters of reference sent directly to Prof. T. Tiedje, Head, at the above address.
There is no deadline for application, as the available positions will be filled as outstanding candidates are found.
