Attention: Mark McCaughrean / Hans Zinnecker,

We have two postdoctoral positions (two years each) available in our group, which presently includes six researchers and students from Germany, Denmark, France, the USA, and the UK. Our main interests are the observational study of young stars, binaries, and brown dwarfs, jets and outflows, and circumstellar disks. An important focus is on the formation and evolution of stars, disks, and planetary systems in dense young clusters, on which we are coordinating a recently-started European Commission Research Training Network with Arcetri, Cambridge, Cardiff, Grenoble, Lisbon, and Saclay.

We welcome applications from people experienced in optical, near/mid-IR, and millimetre studies of star formation, and we are keen to increase our expertise in near-IR spectroscopy and IR interferometry. People working on the formation and detection of planets, and/or analytical or numerical theory relating to star/planet formation are also encouraged to apply.

We have access to optical/IR/millimetre observational facilities on Calar Alto, La Silla, Paranal, Plateau de Bure, and Pico Veleta, and space facilities including HST and XMM through ESA. As part of the Research Training Network, we also have collaborative access to British, French, Italian, and Portuguese national facilities.

The institute is located in forested parkland in Potsdam on the outskirts of Berlin, with fast (30 minutes) access to this exciting city via a direct metrorail link or motorway.

The positions are at the German civil service BATIIa/O level with full benefits, yielding ~DM3000-3500/month after deductions, dependent on age and family status.

Please send a CV, full bibliography, names and contact information for two people familiar with your work, and a cover letter describing your present research and near-term goals. Informal enquiries are welcome.
