Applications are invited for a postdoctoral research position at the http://www.stsci.edu/ Space Telescope Science Institute to work with Drs. http://www-int.stsci.edu/~lstanghe/ Letizia Stanghellini, Richard A. Shaw, and J. Chris Blades on an extensive ground- and HST-based observing program to study extra-Galactic planetary nebulae, stellar evolution, and stellar populations. The successful applicant will be familiar with one or more of the above areas of research, and will also be accomplished in one or more of the following technical areas: hydrodynamic and photo-ionization modeling of gaseous nebulae; the acquisition, calibration, and analysis of ground-based spectroscopic data; and the calibration and analysis of HST imaging and spectroscopy. Familiarity with high-level software languages and astronomical data analysis packages is highly desirable.

Candidates must hold a PhD in astronomy or related field by the date of appointment. The initial appointment is for one year, and is renewable up to three years depending on performance and continued funding. There are no restrictions on citizenship.

STScI, located on Johns Hopkins University Campus in Baltimore, Maryland, offers an excellent benefit package, competitive salaries, and a stimulating work environment. The minimum salary is $41,900; however, STScI's pay is commensurate to the year of Ph.D.
