Attention: John K. Webb, Prof.
The Department of Astrophysics at UNSW wishes to appoint a post-doctoral
research fellow in the area of Cosmology. Funding for this post comes partially
from a John Templeton Foundation award, under the Cosmology Fine Tuning Research
Programme, to work on space-time variability of the fundamental constants of
Nature. The successful applicant will be expected to take a leading role in
developing new research activities related to this field, and also to contribute
to the analysis and interpretation of existing optical and radio/mm spectroscopy
of quasars. A clear commitment to this research programme and a high level of
initiative will be required. Applicants should hold a PhD in extragalactic
astrophysics, should have experience with observational astronomy and
spectroscopic data analysis, and will have already demonstrated a capacity for
independent research.
The Department currently consists of 6 academic staff, two research
support staff, 5 postdoctoral fellows and 12 postgraduate students.
A broad range of research activities are carried out, including
observational and theoretical cosmology, extra-solar planets, Antarctic
astronomical site-testing, infra-red astronomy, and astronomical
instrumentation.
