Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Wayne State University seeks applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Astronomy/Astrophysics. Candidates from all areas of astronomy and astrophysics are encouraged to apply. The successful candidate will help grow our efforts in astronomy research and teaching. They will therefore be able to maintain an active, productive, externally funded research program. Candidates should also be committed to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student body at both undergraduate and graduate levels. A Ph.D. or equivalent degree is required, and postdoctoral experience is important. The appointment is expected to start in August 2022. Our department (http://www.clas.wayne.edu/physics/) consists of 28 faculty members with vibrant research programs across physics. Wayne State’s Dan Zowada Memorial Observatory, a 20-inch robotic telescope located in New Mexico, is available to all department members for research, teaching and outreach. The recently upgraded Wayne State Planetarium has an active series of public shows.
