Job Description

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Washington State University, Pullman, WA invites applications for a permanent, full-time, tenure-track faculty position in astrophysics at the assistant or associate professor level beginning August 16, 2023. Candidates will be considered in all areas of astronomy, astrophysics, and gravitational physics, with a preference for fields that complement existing departmental strengths. The successful applicant will be expected to establish a vigorous externally funded research program, interact with other departmental faculty, and effectively teach a diverse population of undergraduate and graduate students.

Our department has 18 tenured/tenure-track faculty, 5 career track faculty, and roughly 60 graduate students across three campuses. This position is located in Pullman, WA, a town of 35,000 in beautiful Eastern Washington. We are just across the WA-ID border from the University of Idaho. Together, the two universities contribute towards a rich intellectual culture. The rolling Palouse hills and nearby mountain ranges, rivers, canyons, and reservoirs provide ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.
