Job Description

The School of Physics & Astronomy is seeking to recruit a Lecturer in Extrasolar Planets.  We are looking for motivated individuals who develop and lead an independent research programme in astrophysics and deliver high quality, innovative teaching to our well-qualified undergraduate population. The School is internationally recognised for its research (http://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/physics-astronomy/research/) and has been rated top ten in the UK for over twenty years.

We are particularly interested in applicants who complement and extend our current research programmes in extrasolar planets, the detection and characterization of exoplanetary systems and their host stars as well as the physics of planet formation. Applicants should have a strong record of research in astrophysics and some teaching experience, preferably at undergraduate level.

The School and University aspire to create an environment that promotes equality, diversity and inclusivity, and applicants are encouraged to engage with our commitment to these values. The School holds an Athena Swan Silver award and has Juno Champion status, which recognises physics departments who take action to embed better working practices for all staff and to address the under-representation of women in Physics and Astronomy. The University Strategy has “Diverse St Andrews” as one of its key themes and acknowledges an institutional priority towards greater racial and ethnic diversity. The University of St Andrews is committed to promoting equality of opportunity for all, demonstrated by its Gender and Race Equality Charters and Athena SWAN Silver award, HR Excellence in Research Award and the LGBT Charter.  For more information, please see https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/physics-astronomy/about/equality-diversity-inclusion/, www.st-andrews.ac.uk/hr/edi/ and https://www.st-andrews.ac.uk/about/governance/university-strategy/diverse/
