Subject: Congressman Culberson (R-TX) Calls on Science
Community to Take Action
Congressman John Culberson of the 7th Congressional
District
of Texas has appealed directly to all American
Scientists
and Engineers to take action on behalf of the
NASA science
budget.
In a letter to the American science community issued on
March 9, 2006, Congressman Culberson, a supporter of
various
NASA science missions, has called upon all
American
scientists and engineers to write to the chairs
of the House
and Senate Appropriations Committees asking
for a
restoration of the NASA science budget. Such
an increase is
called for in the PACE-Education act now
moving through the
Senate with more than 50 co-sponsors
and it is expected that
a similar bill will soon be
introduced by Congressman
Boehlert, the chair of the
House Science Committee.

The AAS is currently finalizing a statement on the NASA
budget and will release it within the next week along with
a
call to action focusing on the particular issues in
the
President's budget that will damage research
efforts
undertaken by our diverse membership.
