Subject: Sound Science for Florida's Public Schools: Panel Discussion with Renowned Scientists and Educators

This Informational Email is being sent to our Florida members announcing a panel discussion on science education in Talhassase.

** Sound Science for Florida's Public Schools: Panel Discussion with Renowned Scientists and Educators

* Why: In response to the Florida Board of Education's adoption of new standards for the teaching of science in Florida's public schools, two pieces of legislation were filed - Senate Bill 2692 and House Bill 1483, both deemed as relating to "teaching chemical and biological evolution" and purporting to pertain to "academic freedom". In reality, the bills, if passed, would provide cover for the teaching of religious beliefs as science in Florida's science classrooms. This event highlights the need to promote and protect sound science teaching in Florida's science classrooms, for the sake of our children and our state's economic future.

* What: Panel discussion with renowned scientists and educators, "Sound Science for Florida's Public Schools"

* When: Monday, April 14, 2008, at 7 pm
