Good News: 157 Ehlers-Holt
“Dear Colleague” Signers Thanks to AAS Member Help
Kevin B. Marvel, Deputy Executive Officer
Thanks to AAS member response to AAS Action Alert 2004-5 the total number
of signers of the Ehlers-Holt “Dear Colleague” letter advocating
for increased NSF funding reached 157 prior to the close of the signature
gathering period. The entire science community worked quite hard to
gather this many signatures and AAS member participation in this effort
played an important part in our ultimate success in breaking the 150 signature
target.
Several members of Congress signed on in direct response to AAS member
contacts including from Hawaii, California, West Virginia and Maryland
(and perhaps others).
The final signature list is provided below for AAS member information.
The letter itself can be found at the following link: www.aas.org/policy/EhlersHolt.pdf
It is important that members of Congress who have signed on to this letter
be thanked for doing so. If your member of Congress is listed, please
take the time over the summer to write them a letter of thanks for signing
onto the Ehlers-Holt NSF “Dear Colleague” letter. Only by
reinforcing positive Congressional actions can we expect further support
on the Hill.
