    The Astronomy Department of the University of 
California, Berkeley intends to make an appointment 
effective July 1, 2001. Candidates from all fields of 
astrophysics are invited to apply; however applications in 
the fields of theoretical astrophysics and theoretical 
cosmology are particularly encouraged. An appointment at 
either the tenure-track assistant professor or the tenured
levels will be considered.

    The Physics Department will also be conducting a faculty 
search which includes astrophysics. Applicants interested in 
this opportunity should apply directly to the Physics 
Department.

    Please send a curriculum vitae, bibliography, statement 
of research interests, and a list of five references to 
Prof. James R. Graham, Chair of the Search Committee at the
