2. Graduate education survey
From the WIPHYS listserv posting 10/24/01:
"Improving graduate education has been the subject of much
discussion in recent years. The National Association of
Graduate-Professional Students wanted to know how the
implementation of recommended changes was coming
along. Over 32,000 students and recent Ph.D.'s responded to the

3. National Security Education Program (NSEP) Scholarships,
for study abroad
From the WIPHYS listserv posting for 10/26/01:
The Institute of International Education announces that
scholarships are available to US undergraduate students at two and
four-year institutions for study abroad. NSEP encourages students
to internationalize their education by studying in countries critical
to US national interests, but under-represented in study abroad.
The goal of NSEP is to build a base of future leaders who have
language proficiency and cultural understanding to succeed in the
global arena. Details are available at www.iie.org/nsep. Deadline
for the 2002-2003 academic year is Februaury 15, 2002. Questions

4. Faculty Position, Experimental Particle-Astrophysics, The
Ohio State University
The Department of Physics anticipates a faculty position in
experimental particle-astrophysics beginning as early as Fall
2002. The position may be at either the junior or senior level.
Candidates for a junior level position should have a Ph.D. in
Physics, along with postdoctoral experience and outstanding
research accomplishments. In addition, applicants considered
for the senior position should have an active research program.
A commitment to excellence in teaching at both the
undergraduate and graduate levels is essential. Successful
applicants will form the core of a new experimental particle-
astrophysics group. The Physics Department has strong
research groups in high energy and nuclear experiment and
theory, nuclear astrophysics, and theoretical particle-
astrophysics. The Department of Astronomy has a strong
overlap with these groups. The Physics Department also has
excellent support facilities for experimental research including
its own electronic and machine shops. Applicants should
submit a CV, which includes a list of publications, a brief
statement of research interests and proposed activities.
Candidates must also have three letters of recommendation sent
separately. All application materials should be received no later
than January 15, 2002 by:
