1. Networking Breakfasts in APS Annual Meetings

Don't miss an opportunity to enjoy breakfast, listen to a speaker, and network with 
others at the upcoming APS meetings in Indianapolis and Albuquerque. CSWP will 
sponsor a networking breakfast at each gathering. Complete information regarding

4. Tenure-track faculty position(s) at the United States Naval Academy, Annapolis, Maryland

FACULTY OPENING: UNITED STATES NAVAL ACADEMY, ANNAPOLIS, MARYLAND
         ASTRONOMER WITH SMALL TELESCOPE/CCD EXPERIENCE

The Physics Department of the U.S. Naval Academy invites applications for one 
or more tenure-track positions at the assistant professor level, beginning in 
August 2002. There is a possibility that exceptionally qualified candidates may be 
considered at the level of associate professor. The positions are available contingent 
on approval of funding. A successful applicant will have a Ph.D. in physics, a strong 
interest in teaching undergraduates and involving them in research, and the ability to 
teach both lecture and laboratory courses. Fields of particular interest include a) nuclear 
physics, atomic physics, or materials research using a low-energy accelerator; b) acoustics; 
c) atomic physics; d) astrophysics with a CCD camera system on a 20-inch telescope; and 
e) physics education research. Major departmental facilities include a 1.7-MV tandem 
electrostatic accelerator, 20-inch reflecting and 8-inch refracting telescopes, ultrafast 
dye- and solid-state lasers, a helium dilution refrigerator, pulsed/cw NMR system, and a 
well-equipped acoustics laboratory. Upper-division elective courses include Nuclear Physics, 
Acoustics, Optics, Astrophysics, and Condensed-Matter Physics. The department has 25 civilian 
faculty, teaches about 1000 students per year in its core course (which emphasizes 
computer-based instructional laboratories), and graduates 20-25 physics majors per year. To
