1. Events at March and April APS Meetings in Austin & Philadelphia

CSWP plans a variety of events at the APS March meeting, March
3-7 in Austin, Texas. These include a networking breakfast, a
technical session, and a special panel discussion on Title IX and
institutional policies. As information becomes available, it will
be posted here on WIPHYS as well as on the CSWP website
(http://www.aps.org/educ/cswp/index.html ) and Meetings website
(http://www.aps.org/meet/MAR03/ ). Please keep checking back!
Plans for the April meeting (April 5-8, Philadelphia) include a
technical session, another networking breakfast, and a workshop on
survival skills for women physicists. Watch this space!

2. Lecturer and Public Outreach Coordinator, NW Univ. & Adler Planetarium

Northwestern University and the Adler Planetarium and Astronomy Museum seek
an astronomer to fill a joint non-tenure-track position for a renewable term
of two years, starting September 1, 2003. As a member of the Adler's
Astronomy Department, this person will utilize the Adler's recent major
expansion: new exhibits and exhibition space, new virtual-reality theater,
expanded astronomy department with focus on research and public outreach. As
lecturer at NU, this person will teach two one-quarter astronomy courses
each year and develop new courses for NU undergraduates at both NU and the
Adler. This person will also develop and promote public-observing programs
at NU (recently restored Dearborn telescope; 18.5-inch Clark refractor) and
the Adler (Doane Observatory; 0.5 m Cassegrain reflector). This person will
serve as liaison between the two institutions, drawing on the scientific,
instructional, and outreach resources of each. Required: Ph.D. in astronomy
or physics, including experience with CCD camera operation and image
processing, experience in teaching astronomy in university setting, and
interest/experience in public outreach activities and curricular innovation.
This is primarily a teaching and outreach position although the person
holding it will have access to NU research facilities in order to pursue his
or her own independent program of research. See

3. Rosalind Franklin Tenure-track Fellowships at Univ. of Groningen, NL

The Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences of the University
of Groningen (the Netherlands), invites applications for a Rosalind
Franklin Fellowship. To promote the participation of women
scientists in the faculty, five tenure-track fellowships will be
awarded to outstanding women scientists from any of the
disciplines mathematics, physics, astronomy, chemistry, biology,
pharmacy and computing science.Applicants must have: a Ph.D and
post-doctoral experience, preferably in different research
institutions (Dutch applicants should have post-doctoral experience
outside The Netherlands), publications in top international scientific
journals, experience in supervising research projects, the ability to
successfully compete for external research funding, affinity to
teaching, evidence of international recognition. Successful
candidates will be expected to establish an independent, externally
funded research program in collaboration with colleagues at the
University of Groningen and elsewhere. They will also be expected
to participate in and contribute to the development of the teaching
program of the faculty. The 5-year fellowship comprises an annual
starting salary of 45 000 EURO gross (full time position), and an
accompanying research grant of 200 000 EURO. During these five
years the fellow will be expected to concentrate on research with
teaching duties comprising at most 20% of the time. Following a
favorable evaluation at the end of the first 5 years the fellow
will be awarded tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate
Professor. After a further five years another evaluation will take
place and if this proves favorable, promotion to full professor will
follow. Applicants should submit:
1. a complete curriculum vitae including a complete list of publications
2. a list of five self-selected "best papers" (notcopies of the papers)
3. a 3-5 page statement of research accomplishments and future research
goals
4.Three letters of recommendation
