1. UK's Royal Society offers relocation fellowships

The UK's Royal Society have a new 1-year fellowship scheme to help
scientists who are moving to follow a partner within the UK.
"The relocating partner does not have to be a scientific researcher.
Salary and research expenses will be provided in order for the applicant
to relocate and continue their research career with the minimum of
disruption. It is expected that the transitional funding provided by the
fellowship will allow time for the applicant to apply for long-term
support or negotiate a permanent position."

2. Spitzer Observation Planning Workshops

With the Spitzer GO-2 Call for Proposals having recently been issued,
please let us draw your attention to our upcoming observation planning
workshops for Spitzer Cycle 2.
Space is still available at these workshops. Even if you personally don't

colleagues in your department, group, or center, or your collaborators, who
might be interested in attending.

3. IMPRS for Astronomy and Cosmic Physics, Heidelberg

the recently founded

** Physics (IMPRS) at the University of Heidelberg **

invites for applications for its Ph.D. program.
The school is located in Heidelberg (Germany), one of the most beautiful
old university towns in Europe.
The school offers outstanding research and training opportunities with
excellent instrumental, observational, and theoretical research
facilities at five first-rate institutes, namely
-- the Max-Planck Institute for Astronomy (MPIA),
-- the Max-Planck Institute for Nuclear Physics (MPIK),
-- the Institute for Theoretical Astrophysics (ITA),
-- the Astronomisches Recheninstitut (I.f. Astronomical Computing, ARI),
-- the Landessternwarte (State Observatory) Heidelberg (LSW).
The main research topics at these institutions are:
Planet and star formation - extrasolar planets and substellar objects
- astrometry - formation, evolution and dynamics of galaxies - active
galactic nuclei and massive black holes - gravitational lensing
- cosmology and structure formation - high energy astrophysics, cosmic
rays and search for non-baryonic dark matter - state-of-art instrumenta-
tion for astronomy and astroparticle physics.
IMPRS at the University of Heidelberg has established a comprehensive
course program including regular lectures, seminars, invited guest
lectures, or advanced summer schools. The Ph.D. research projects will
be supervised by scientists at one of the participating institutes.
IMPRS Heidelberg is open for students from all countries world wide and
offers several 3-year Ph.D. fellowships available for international and
national students. Interested students are invited to apply by
15 January 2005 for the academic year starting in September 2005.
In general, applicants should have a Masters or Diploma in Physics or
Astronomy (or equivalent) including a corresponding thesis. Successful
applicants will receive financial support through a PhD fellowship.

4. CSWP Plans Variety of Programs

Mark your calendars - CSWP will sponsor or co-sponsor a variety of events
at the APS March meeting to be held March 21-25, 2005 in Los Angeles.
These will include a professional skills development workshop for tenured
women physicists (a few spaces still remain!), invited technical talks,
and a networking breakfast with speaker. Information will be posted on the
Meetings Dept. website at http://www.aps.org/meet/MAR05/ as it becomes
available!
Did you know CSWP publishes a newsletter, the Gazette, twice a year? Other
programs and projects include a climate for women in physics site visit
program, a summer research internship for undergraduate women (with IBM),

Sciences the University of Groningen offers a prestigious fellowship
programme, named after Rosalind Franklin, whose X-ray studies of DNA
were crucial to solving its structure. Five fellowships are available in
the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences.

APPLICANTS MUST HAVE:
- a Ph.D and post-doctoral experience, preferably in different research
institutions (Dutch applicants should have post-doctoral experience
outside the Netherlands).
- publications in top international scientific journals
- experience in supervising research projects
- the ability to successfully compete for external research funding
- affinity to teaching
- evidence of international recognition
Successful candidates will be expected to establish an independent,
externally funded research program in collaboration with colleagues at
the University of Groningen and elsewhere. They will also be expected to
participate in and contribute to the development of the teaching
programme of the Faculty.
The 5-year fellowship comprises an annual starting salary of 50000 EURO
gross (full time position), and an accompanying research grant of 200000
EURO. During these five years the fellow will be expected to concentrate
on research with teaching duties comprising at most 20% of the time.
Following a favourable evaluation at the end of the first 5 years the
fellow will be awarded tenure and promotion to the rank of Associate
Professor. After a further 5 years another evaluation will take place
and if this proves favourable, promotion to full professor will follow.

- a list of five self-selected "best papers" (not copies of the papers)
- up to 5 keywords describing your research area
- a 3 page statement of research accomplishments and future research

applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in
Experimental High Energy Physics to start August 2005. Candidates with
research interests in any area of the field will be considered. The
successful candidate is expected to establish a vigorous research program
