2. Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research, Stanford University Residential Research Fellows Program

Call for Applications: 2007-2008
The Michelle R. Clayman Institute for Gender Research at Stanford
University invites applications for residential fellowships for the
academic year 2007-2008. Applications will be considered from tenured
and tenure-track faculty, and postdoctoral scholars from the U.S. and
foreign universities; or from practitioners of women^Òs traditional
knowledges. Candidates may apply as individuals or as small groups
(e.g. 2-4 individuals).
Fellowships are offered in the following interdisciplinary areas:
Gendered Innovations in Knowledge; Gender in the Physical and
Technical Sciences, and Math; Gender in Engineering; Gender in
Environmental Sciences; Gender in the Life Sciences; Clustering in
Scientific Subfields; Dual-Career Academic Couples; Women and Gender
in High-Tech; Technology Entrepreneurs in Silicon Valley; and Women^Òs
Traditional Knowledges.
Fellows must be in residence at Stanford University's Clayman
Institute for the duration of their fellowship. Fellowship stipends
range from $36,000 for postdoctoral scholars to $60,000 for senior
faculty and practitioners of women's traditional knowledges. The award
is calculated for a residency of three quarters (the equivalent of
nine months), or it may be prorated for a commitment of less time.

3. CSWP events at Denver APS Meeting

CSWP/FIAP NETWORKING BREAKFAST, MARCH 6, DENVER
CSWP and the Forum on Industrial and Applied Physics (FIAP) will co-sponsor a
networking breakfast from 7:30-9:30 am on Tuesday, March 6, 2007 at the APS
meeting in Denver. Both men and women are welcome to attend. Enjoy a
delicious full breakfast and hear an informal talk by Lisa Dhar of InPhase
Technologies. Cost: $15. $5 for physics students, thanks to FIAP's
generosity. Please pre-register at

space for walk-ins. The breakfast will be held in the Convention Center to
allow those who wish to attend invited sessions.
COM/CSWP DESSERT RECEPTION, MARCH 6, DENVER
Enjoy a dessert buffet, learn about the work of the Committee on Minorities in
Physics and the Committee on the Status of Women in Physics, network with
colleagues, and unwind after a long day of sessions. This event will be held
on Tuesday, March 6, 7:00-8:00 pm in the Adams Mark Hotel (Governor's Square
16).

4. CSWP/DPF NETWORKING LUNCHEON, APRIL 16, JACKSONVILLE

The Committee on the Status of Women in Physics (CSWP) and the Division of
Particles and Fields (DPF) will co-sponsor a buffet luncheon from
12:00-1:30 pm on Monday, April 16, 2007 at the APS meeting at the Hyatt
Regency Hotel, Jacksonville, FL.
The luncheon is open to all: both men and women are welcome to attend.
This is an excellent opportunity to enjoy a full buffet lunch and network with
colleagues! Joanne Hewett of SLAC will be the informal speaker. Cost: $20.

5. FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT - NORDIC NETWORK OF WOMEN IN PHYSICS WORKSHOP, DEMARK

The next workshop of Nordic Network of Women in Physics (NorWiP) will be held
in Lyngby, Denmark, August 16-17th 2007; see

Confirmed invited speakers include Naomi Halas, Rice University, Texas,
Meg Urry from Yale University, Connecticut, and Anne Borg from Norwegian
University of Science and Technology. There will be workshops in: Self
management: Balancing family and career; Negotiation techniques; Presentation
techniques; Dramatic Communication. More information including a preliminary

7. VISITING ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF PHYSICS - TWO POSITIONS,
DEPT OF PHYSICS & ASTRONOMY, BUCKNELL UNIVERSITY

The Department of Physics & Astronomy has two openings for visiting assistant
professors beginning August 2007. These positions are one-year leave
replacement positions with the possibility of an extension to a second year.
Candidates are expected to have a Ph.D. in physics or astronomy
(or equivalent) and potential for excellence in teaching. (ABD candidates
will be considered.)
Candidates will be expected to teach at all levels of the curriculum. The
Department of Physics & Astronomy has a history of actively involving students
in research projects. Bucknell is a highly selective, predominately
undergraduate, private university with 3500 students and a Physics & Astronomy
Department with 11 permanent faculty. Application materials include a resume,
a statement that addresses your potential as a teacher and your scholarly

8. RESEARCH INTERNSHIP FOR UNDERGRADUATE WOMEN

Information on the 2007 APS/IBM Research Internship for Undergraduate Women is
now available! These summer internships are salaried positions typically 10
weeks long, and include in addition a $2,500 grant, plus the opportunity to
work with a mentor at one of three IBM research locations. Applications must
