PhD position in Tartu Observatory, University of Tartu (Estonia)

University of Tartu, Tartu Observatory (Estonia) invites applications for a PhD position in cosmic web and galaxies.

We are looking for a highly motivated individual interested in studying the cosmic web environment and galaxy properties using data from spectroscopic galaxy surveys. An integral part of the thesis is developing new analysis methods to overcome observational biases and make full use of the statistical power of the upcoming 4MOST survey. The successful candidate will work with Prof. Elmo Tempel and Dr. Taavi Tuvikene. The candidates are expected to have a background in astrophysics and basic programming skills (e.g. Python, Fortran). Prior experience with astronomical research, particularly relating to cosmic web characterisation and galaxy evolution, will confer an advantage in evaluation.

The successful applicant is offered a gross salary starting from 2000 Euros per month (1550 Euros net). Further upgrading is possible contingent upon performance.
