Help Secure the Future of American Astronomy

Diane Frendak

Diane Frendak American Astronomical Society (AAS)

The American Astronomical Society has been enhancing and sharing humanity’s scientific understanding of the universe for 117 years. Our newly-launched Spring / Summer 2016 Fundraising Campaign invites you to secure the future of our vibrant field of study by establishing the AAS Initiative Endowment Fund.

The income generated by the AAS Inititative Endowment Fund is to be used to provide start-up funds for new AAS initiatives approved by the Council of the AAS for which continuing support is being sought. - J. P. Ostriker Professor Jeremiah P. Ostriker, our 1972 Helen B. Warner Prize recipient and our 1980 Henry Norris Russell Lecturer, has made a generous contribution to get the fund started, and now it’s up to you. Our goal this year is to raise at least $20,000 — the threshold set for the fund’s formal approval by the AAS Council. Once established, the AAS Initiative Endowment Fund will provide a steady source of funds on which the Society can rely in perpetuity.

Donations may be made online or mailed to the Executive Office of the American Astronomical Society at the following address:

You can also give to the funds, prizes, programs, and activities that have meaning to you, such as the Annie Jump Cannon Award honoring outstanding research and promise for future research by a woman in the early stage of her astronomy career. As always, we appreciate contributions to the AAS General Fund, which supports advocacy efforts, operations, and membership services.

Help us ensure a bright future for astronomy and the Society by donating today.
